CoolSculpting vs Liposuction, which fat reduction procedure is attuned to you?

March 3, 2025

Summer bodies are made in winter. So, if you’re seeking body contouring and fat reduction that is naturally attuned, now’s the time to hit the cool button and lock in CoolSculpting treatments across the cooler seasons, or book in your liposuction consultation to address those stubborn fat pockets once and for all.

Achieving body balance and proportionate enhancement – be it the face, breasts or buttocks, or and naturally-looking fat reduction – thighs, stomach, arms and love handles – is universally shared. However, for some of us, elective plastic surgery procedures like liposuction to remove fat is not possible due to anesthesia concerns or health issues. Simultaneously, people with a higher BMI may not achieve the results they expect to from noninvasive CoolSculpting sessions.

So, which factors determine if fat freezing is for you? Ideally, you’ll be a healthy BMI and seeking minimal fat reduction in key body areas with stubborn fat cells – the hips, stomach, upper arms, thighs. You’ll have realistic fat reduction expectations – nothing extreme – as noninvasive fat freezing results in a 20% fat reduction in treated areas, with several treatments, spread across several months, required.

If more of a dramatic body change is what you’re aiming for, liposuction might be a better option. Whilst you can only expect to lose, on average, up to six kilograms of fat, plastic surgeons can excise fat across a larger body area in just one session. And, liposuction can often be combined with another cosmetic surgery procedure, for example liposuction and abdominoplasty in the midsection, for more targeted and intensive body contouring.

“If you have one-to-three small bulges of fat you’d like to see gone but are overall happy with your shape and size, CoolSculpting is your partner in fat reduction. If you’d like more fat loss, across a wider area and you’re aiming to change your body shape, liposuction might be a better option.”

As for difference in treatment costs, it’s not always cut and dry. For example, one CoolSculpting treatment may cost you under $1000 for one area, but you might require three or four treatments before you see visible results – and you can only expect a 20% reduction in fat. Liposuction may be a larger cost upfront, but your end result is instant with just the one procedure, with a larger proportion of fat excised.
